  • Only God is able to bring to pass whatever He has promised – Gen. 21:1-3

Gen 21:1-3

And the Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did unto Sarah as he had spoken. 2 For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. 3 And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac.

  • Only the hand of God can fulfil the plan of God in our lives – 1 Kgs 8:15

1 Kings 8:15

15 And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, which spake with his mouth unto David my father, and hath with his hand fulfilled it,

  • But thanksgiving is a covenant requirement to see God’s hand stretched forth to fulfil any prophetic word – 1 Thes. 5:18/ Heb. 10:36

1 Thess 5:18

18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Heb 10:36

36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

Our exhortation this week is captioned ‘Engaging the Power of Thanksgiving for fulfilment of prophecy’.

Engaging the Mystery of Thanksgiving and Praise for fulfilment of Prophecy

  • The example of Abraham
    • A prophetic word went forth concerning a son for Abraham at an old age Gen. 12:1-3/                Gen. 18:12

Gen 12:1-3

Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: 2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Gen 18:12

12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?

  • But Abraham was said to be strong in faith, giving glory to God for that prophecy to be fulfilled – Rom. 4:19-21/ Gen. 21:1-3

Rom 4:19-21

19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb: 20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; 21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.

  • In the same vein, it will require thanksgiving and praise to keep the church of Christ growing                           – Jer. 30:19

Jer 30:19

19 And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.

Engaging the Mystery of Thanksgiving and Praise for fulfilment of Prophecy

  • The example of Hannah
    • Hannah received the prophetic word from Eli 1 Sam. 1:15-17

1 Sam 1:15-17

15 And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the Lord. 16 Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto. 17 Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.

  • But Hannah engaged in joy and rejoicing to see prophecy fulfilled – 1 Sam. 1:18

1 Sam 1:18

18 And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad.

  • As long as we retain the joy of harvest, the church will continue to grow – Joel. 1:11-12

Joel 1:11-12

11 Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished. 12 The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.

Engaging the Mystery of Thanksgiving and Praise for fulfilment of Prophecy

  • The example of Jehoshaphat
    • The prophetic word went forth that they will not need to fight in that battle 2 Chr. 20:17

2 Chron 20:17

17 Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the Lord will be with you.

  • And as they began to sing and praise, God took over the battle and won the victory for them in ground style – 2Chr. 20:22-24

2 Chron 20:22-24

22 And when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten. 23 For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another. 24 And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.

  • With thanksgiving and praise, we continue to scale new heights in church growth – Act. 2:46-47

Acts 2:46-47

46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, 47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

Engaging the Mystery of Thanksgiving and Praise for fulfilment of Prophecy

  • The example of Hezekiah
    • A prophetic word came concerning his recovery Isa. 38:1-5

Isa 38:1-5

In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live. 2 Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed unto the Lord, 3 And said, Remember now, O Lord, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore. 4 Then came the word of the Lord to Isaiah, saying, 5 Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.

  • But Hezekiah had to sing his song for prophecy to be fulfilled – Isa. 38: 18:20

Isa 38:18-20

18 For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. 19 The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth. 20 The Lord was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the Lord.

  • With thanksgiving and praise, we secure divine presence that guarantees continuous church growth – Psa. 22:3/ 1 Cor. 3:6

Ps 22:3

3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.

1 Cor 3:6

6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

Engaging the Mystery of Thanksgiving and Praise for fulfilment of Prophecy

  • The example of Paul and Silas
    • Every child of God is redeemed to be free and free indeed Jn. 8:36

John 8:36

36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

  • But for Paul and Silas to be free from the prison, they had to engage in singing praises unto God – Act. 16:25-30

Acts 16:25-30

25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. 26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed. 27 And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled. 28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here. 29 Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, 30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

  • God will always respond to our thanksgiving with supernatural growth – Jer. 30: 19

Jer 30:19

19 And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.

Engaging the Mystery of Thanksgiving and Praise for fulfilment of Prophecy

  • The example of Christ
    • Jesus declared the hour has come when the dead shall hear His voice and live – Jhn. 5:25

John 5:25

25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.

  • This prophetic verdict was fulfilled at the grave of Lazarus when Jesus called him back to life- Jhn. 11:40-44

John 11:40-44

40 Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God? 41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. 42 And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me. 43 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. 44 And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

  • Thanksgiving and praise will keep the church of Christ growing – Act. 2:46-47

Acts 2:46-47

46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, 47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

Jesus is Lord!
