Text: Psalm 91

“Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with song of deliverance.” (Psalm 32:7)

Now more than ever do we need to cling to the promises of God contained in today’s text. The days are evil. Crisis everywhere; cities are burning, villages are in chaos. Every country in the world is experiencing one calamity or the other; there is no peace anywhere. However, God is promising those that abide in Him a safe haven from disaster. How blessed are we that we have a God that is able and mighty to save, heal and deliver?

Nevertheless, to be a beneficiary of the promises contained in Psalm 91, there is a condition. The first verse says that it is for those that dwell in His secret place. The keyword to focus on is, DWELL. So, we must dwell in His presence. The dictionary defines the word dwell as ‘to live/stay as a permanent resident, reside, or live continuously at a place’. Therefore, to receive the promises of God, we must continuously stay in His presence not just to visit when we come to church or pray and go our way to come back at another time in the future. No! We must stay in His presence always. Like Moses, we must say that we will not go anywhere unless His presence goes before and with us.

When we dwell in His presence, it will be difficult for us to sin or go astray. We will not find it difficult to be holy when we are in His presence. In His presence, there is fullness of joy.

Unfortunately, a lot of us only stay in His presence when we are in the church or praying. This is not what God requires. We are to take Him everywhere we go. When we are at work, school, our business with friends, or even foes, we are to reflect Christ that lives in us. We should not be one thing on Sunday and another thing during the week. Our life needs to reflect the nature of He that lives inside of us. It is only when we dwell in His secret place that He can reveal His hidden secrets to us and protect and keep us. Indeed, it’s only those that dwell in His secret place that the promises listed in the book of Psalm are meant for. It is not for the occasional seeker of God.

A man that seeks to know God more and more and wants to be empowered by Him; must spend quality time with Him to learn of Him and transform to His likeness. From today ensure you dwell in His presence.

2. Father, reveal to me your hidden secrets and protect me from evil in Jesus’ name.

3. Dear Lord, go before the Chosen ones and lead us in the paths of righteousness, in Jesus’ name.

4. O God, by your spirit and grace, cause our G. O and Mommy in the Lord to remain steadfastly in your presence, in Jesus’ name.
