The tests of a true prophet are those godly
virtues that a called prophet of God must possess richly in order to impart his generation (See l John 4:1-21). A true
prophet must manifest genuine fruits of the spirit beyond the
manifestation of spiritual gifts.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering,
gentleness, goodness, faith.”
Galatians 5:22
Many times, people are carried away by manifestations
without seeking the fruit of godly living and integrity. Please
don’t tell us what you preach, show us your everyday life
driven by God’s scriptural injunctions. When a prophet moves
in a spectacular word of knowledge with confirmatory signs, wonders and miracles, and after then, goes back to his
drinking to stupor and indulging in adultery with reckless
abandon, no matter what the prophet has prophesied, there
is need to be very careful with such a person because such
limitations have power to scatter the body of Christ.
“A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a
corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Wherefore by their
fruits ye shall know them.” Matthew 7: 18, 20
Character and integrity must be the lifestyle of a genuine
prophet. Your ministry must be consistent with your lifestyle
and character. Like Prophet Samuel of old, he boldly declared
before his people that if anyone has something against his
ministry, that the person should say it.

Up till now nobody has
cast aspersion on his ministry. The fruit of the Spirit, when
applied, has power to separate a prophet from another.

A
prophet must be loaded with the Word of God.
“I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren,
like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he
shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.” Deut. 18:18.
