Is Earning Money suppose to be the Only Reason why People go to Work?

Income is an important factor to consider before taking up a job offer. While some people believe that it is major factor to consider, I completely disagree to this point of view.

It is paramount to consider other factors like distance between workplace and home then career progression opportunities.
In my opinion, it is not right to consider only the monetary aspect attached to a job because no matter how huge the salary is if it doesn’t give room for progress, it can lead to frustration and unhappiness.

Also, it is important to consider proximity to residential places and cost implications for transportation or if an official car or bus is made available for easy conveyance. For instance, in the city of Lagos, the cost of transportation is so high that you might spend 50% of income received on transportation if the workplace is a distance away from home.

Furthermore, the working hour should be put into consideration because a work that does not give room for hollidays and create time for bonding between families and friends can be highly challenging and frustrating.

Moreover, jobs that provide room for training of employees are more rewarding than those based on salary alone.

A highly rewarding job will not only provide salary but give room for growth and development of employees, provide health and family insurance and also provide pension plan towards retirement. Therefore all these together with the income received result into employee’s job satisfaction.

In conclusion, monetary value of a job should not be the major factor to consider when taking up a job offer. The workplace value and factors that lead to job satisfaction should be put into place as they are as significant as the money attached.
