EXCEEDING ABUNDANT GRACE PART 4: The life of Joseph

We are going to understand first and foremost what the grace of God did in the life of Joseph and we are going to understand his secrets of accessing that grace. The grace of God is a lifeline in the ocean of troubles. The grace of God is a helpline in times of crisis. It is that line that you call when there is crisis. That was what that grace did in the life of Joseph. What were the challenges, the odds and the troubles in the life of Joseph that grace rescued him from?

1. Joseph was a motherless boy in a polygamous home.
Anyone who comes from a polygamous home will understand the meaning of that. His mother died while giving birth to his brother Benjamin. It is hard in a polygamous setting where your mother is, not to talk of where there is no mother.

2. Joseph was the young man who literally raised himself and his junior brother.
There are some of us seated here who raised ourselves up because you don’t have a mother or a father who you can say brought you up. Joseph raised himself and raised his brother.
No matter what your life is, somebody was there.

3. Joseph was the young man who was hated by his siblings for standing on the ground of righteousness i
In Genesis 37:2 the brothers of Joseph did something evil and Joseph brought it to their father. Have you been persecuted for being right before? They are angry with you because you don’t smoke like they smoke or sleep with men for money like they do. Because your righteousness convicts their sinfulness and your discipline rebukes their carelessness so they hate you.

4. Joseph was a young man that was hated for being favoured by his father.
This was not a favour he gave himself. Maybe you are in the work setting and they say your boss likes you too much, you are the favourite of your pastor, father or whatever and you are hated for a favour you did not ask for. That was Joseph

5. Joseph was the young man who was the victim of family conspiracy
Genesis 37:28
They conspired against Joseph and sold him into slavery. The truth of the matter is if there is any one here with a destiny that is substantial and meaningful, People will conspire against you. People you are helping, people you think love you will conspire against you.

6. Joseph was the victim of false accusation and imprisonment
If you have a future that is substantial, you will be falsely accused and probably suffer consequences that you do not deserve.

When God saw all of this in the life of Joseph, God moved. What did grace or help from God do for Joseph:

1. God gave him promotion in slavery.
Genesis 39:2

2. God gave him promotion in prison
It doesn’t matter where people keep you, if the hand of God is on your life no devil can keep you down.

3. God gave him the vision of his future

4. God gave him wisdom for successful living
He gave him a realm of wisdom that beat the magicians of Egypt hands down (Genesis 41:39)

5. God gave him favour in the sight of Pharaoh, King of Egypt.
Acts 7:10

6. God gave Joseph wealth, power and influence in a strange land.
– God is about to give you the kind of influence that will shock your generation.

We are in a season of wealth transfer and wealth control, if your story has been the Joseph kind of story then Congratulations because God is changing your story.

What were the secrets of Joseph?

1. Passion for God’s presence
If you are passionate about His presence, no devil can deny you of your portion in destiny. There is a connection between your passion for God and your portion in life.

Passion for the presence of God is necessary. Someone said if you want to know Pastor Dr. Paul Enenche listen to his songs.

2. The fear of the Lord

The fear of the Lord opened Joseph to the grace of God. Genesis 42:18, Proverbs 8:13. When you fear God you are not able to stand evil. You will never be able to survive with a conscience that is not clean.

3. Love for People / interest in the welfare of others.
Joseph loved people, while Joseph was in prison he met two people – the butler and the baker. Concern for the lives of offers attracts the grace of God. When what bothers people bothers you, you attract the grace and the help of God.

4. The heart of servanthood and humility
The Bible said Joseph served the butler and the baker (Genesis 40:3-4). He was serving those he was meant to oversee.

He was serving people he was meant to lord over. Pastor determine to become a servant of all the people that God sent you to look after. Determine to become a servant in your place of work. Embrace the spirit of humility through service and you will see the grace of God.

5. The heart of forgiveness
Joseph told his brethren as for you, you meant evil but God meant good (Genesis 50:20-24). Offences will come, there are people who will work with you and end up working against you.

As long as you live in this world offences will come but every offence comes to reduce grace if you allow the offence to work. Bitterness deprives you of grace, deprives you of power, deprives you of unction.

Some people don’t understand forgiveness. When you say I should forgive, do you mean that I should keep the person that wants me dead as my friend?

No not necessarily. I say it like this, when someone gives you a glass of water to drink and you didn’t drink it and later on it was analyzed and discovered that there was poison in that glass of water.

That means the person wants to kill you, that’s terrible. But scripturally you are meant to forgive him.

If he gives you a glass of water next time, do you take it and drink? No! Because he wanted to kill you before. Forgiveness doesn’t mean you lack wisdom. You forgive with love but you act with wisdom going forward and release him from your heart.
– I believe the Joseph kind of grace is coming on someone. What we shall be leaving here with is called the spirit of grace.
