IF YOU PAY ATTENTION TO THE SONG THAT SOMEONE IS SINGING, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO GUESS WHAT THEY ARE GOING THROUGH.

THE GREATEST VICTORY IS VICTORY OVER YOURSELF

– Pastor E.A. Adeboye on SONGS OF VICTORY at RCCG Thanksgiving Service, December 2021.

🎶 That wonderful name Jesus. That wonderful name Jesus. There is no other name I know 🎶.

Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, the One and only Jesus. We worship you, we adore you, we magnify your holy name. We thank you for everything you have done for us since the beginning of this year. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you because we know it is of your mercy we are not consumed. That we can get to the twelfth month of the year, we are sure the devil has lost the battle over us. Lord, as we are here to sing and praise you today, we ask that you accept our worship in Jesus name. Do what only you can do, save souls, heal the sick, set captives free and Lord let the rest of this year be glorious for your children and let the coming year be far more glorious in Jesus name we have prayed. Amen.

This Sunday morning, we want to bless the name of the Lord for His goodness, for His mercy, for all He has done for us since the beginning of the year. So our theme this morning is SONGS OF VICTORY. That of course tells you that we will be doing quite a bit of singing this morning.

Text: Psalm 3:1-3

I have told you before that human beings were made specially to sing. We sing when we are happy, we sing when we are sad, we sing when we are fighting, we sing when we have won the battle, we even sing when we have lost a battle. If you pay attention to the song that someone is singing, you will be able to guess what they are going through. For example, if you hear someone singing “🎶You are the mighty man in battle, El Shaddai. Jehovah Nissi You are the mighty man in battle, Glory to your name 🎶” you know that fellow is likely going for an interview. What he is saying is “Mighty man in battle come along with me”.

If he comes out of the interview successfully his song will change. You will immediately begin to hear him say “🎶He has done it for me, He has done it for. What my father cannot do, He has done it for me🎶”. If He fails at the interview the song is likely to be 🎶we will overcome, we will overcome. We will overcome some day. Deep in my heart I do believe, we will overcome some day🎶.

If you hear someone working for you always singing 🎶Arise oh Lord, let your enemies be scattered. Arise oh Lord, let your enemies be scattered. Oh Lord, Oh Lord Arise🎶. It means you are a very terrible Head of Department. So you better call that fellow into your office and find out what is the problem because he might be calling on the Lord of Hosts to come and do something about you.

When someone is going through persecution of one type or the other, you will constantly hear the fellow sing 🎶The Church is marching on, The Church is marching on. The gates of hell shall not prevail, the Church is marching on. You can tell what is happening to someone by the song they sing. The song you sing when you are dedicating a new baby is not the same you sing when you have just lost a contract.

When we talk about singing songs of victory, you need to know that victory are in categories. When you win in a fight against your equal or your colleagues, the song is special. For example, in 1 Samuel 1:1-7 tells us about a man who had two wives, one was productive and the other was barren and the Bible tells us that the productive wife was constantly irritating Hannah, then the Almighty God performed a miracle and suddenly Hannah had a son.

If you want to know how the song of Hannah went read 1 Samuel 2:1-2, you will know that is where we got our song 🎶There is none holy as the Lord, there is none beside thee. Neither is there any rock like our God. There is none holy as the Lord🎶. It is a song of victory from a woman who got victory over another woman who was terrorizing her.
• Those of you who are married and are having troubles in your marriage because of a strange woman trying to spoil your home. Very soon you will sing a song of victory in your home.

The song you sing when enemies are many is different from the song you sing when the enemy is just one. For example look at Psalm 18, the introduction says this is the Psalm David sang when God delivered him from all his enemies. David looked up, down, right, left and center and discovered all his enemies were gone, that is when he wrote Psalm 18.

Psalm 18:1-3,46

You see the song that he sang, from which we got another song: 🎶 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised. The Lord reigneth, blessed be the Rock. Let the Rock of my salvation be exalted. The Lord reigneth, blessed be the Rock. Let the Rock of my salvation be exalted🎶. That song was composed by someone who found Himself victorious over his enemies.
• I pray for someone reading this now that before the year runs out, you will be singing that song.

When you have victory over overwhelming odds. When the enemy you have to deal with is just overwhelming and God gives you victory without a fight. The song you will be singing will be different. In Exodus 14:10-14, when Pharaoh with his army was pursuing the children of Israel and they were by the Red Sea, there was no way they could fight the Egyptians and win because they didn’t have weapons and they have being slaves for many years so they didn’t learn how to fight. And then Moses spoke to them and said “Don’t worry, God will fight for you. Just be still”.

Then, you move to verses 21-28 of the same Exodus 14, all of a sudden God began to fight. God opened the Red Sea before them and they walked through on dry land and the enemy followed them and drowned. When you go over to Exodus 15:1-19, I will pick one of the verses, verse 11 and you will see the song that they sang: 🎶Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods, who is like thee? glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders Hallelujah🎶.

I believe God chose this topic for us this Sunday, so that we can have songs of various categories because I believe very strongly that by the time we enter the new year, the Lord of hosts who fought for Israel will have fought for you. He will give you victory over the enemies of your body, enemies of your soul, enemies of your spirit. Over generational enemies, over overwhelming odds. Do you know what? The greatest victory is victory over yourself. Victory over yourself in the sense that you got victory over hell, victory over Satan.

When you consider the story of the thief on the cross who was hanging already crucified on the cross, few seconds to go and he would have landed in hell fire and then the Almighty God saved his soul. I wasn’t there but I am sure when he found himself in paradise with Jesus Christ, his song is not going to be like those who were delivered from the torment of colleagues or the torment of Heads of Department. His songs will be different.

When you give your life to Jesus Christ, when you realize how close you were to total damnation before the Almighty God snatched you from the jaws of hell, your songs might be many. You would probably be singing 🎶 I am rejoicing my name has been written, I am rejoicing that I am born again🎶. I sang that song years ago when the Almighty God saved my soul in 1973.

That is one of the songs I enjoyed so much. You might be singing 🎶Come and join me sing Hallelujah, Jehovah Jireh has done me well. Come and Join me sing Hallelujah, Jehovah Jireh has done me well🎶.

Some people wonder why I always work Hallelujah one way or the other in any of my songs, it is because I keep on remembering how close to hell I was. I thought I was doing fine as a young man, lecturer in the University, already built a house, had a car, married with children, I thought I was doing fine.

Then one day I heard a song that showed me that with all my achievements I was like a lamb for the slaughter, like the ram our colleagues in the other faith will buy when they want to celebrate. They will feed the ram, the children will be washing the ram. The ram will be wondering ” How great am I, I am so popular”. Not knowing that in another two days or three it will be roasted. That was who I was like. I wrote a tract for that ‘Ram For The Slaughter’.

If you are truly born again, you will wake up in the morning with a song of victory in your mouth. You wake up in the morning and your heart is bubbling with joy. It doesn’t matter what is happening outside. You know you are on your way to heaven and that is enough.

Suddenly you realize that it doesn’t matter what is happening in this world is going to pass away but where you are going is joy forever. If you are a true child of God, you should sing praises to God. Sing praises to God because without the salvation of your soul, you will probably be singing another song later on.

Which is why, if you are not yet born again you don’t even know what we are talking about, the Bible says “Taste and see that the Lord is good”. Come and taste, let Jesus change the song in your mouth. If you want to surrender your life to Jesus, go ahead and cry to Jesus for mercy wherever you are. Ask Him to save your soul.

My Father and my God I want to thank you for your word. Thank you for all the victories you have given us, battles we know about and battles we are not even aware of which you fought for us when we were sleeping, battles you gave us victory over even when we were yet sinners.

Thank you for those who have heard your word now and are surrendering their lives to you, please receive them. Save their souls, let your blood wash away their sins, let them join your family and let them continue to sing of your mercy. As for those of us who are already your children, as we sing praises to you Father, Arise Oh Lord and let your enemies be scattered, in Jesus name we have prayed.

• You will be singing songs of victory from now on in Jesus name.
