TOPIC: HINDRANCES TO WALKING IN LOVE (PART 3)
Scripture :Luke 9: 23. And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
Beloved, I welcome you to another Moment of Daily Encounter! Previously, we established that walking in love could be hindered by the enemy called offence! Until offence is out of the way, walking in love is not exciting, so we have to do all we can to eliminate offence. And that begins by finding out the cause of the offence.
Yesterday we looked at one major factor that promotes offence as unfulfilled expectations. Today, we shall consider yet another factor.
What are the factors that promote offences :
1. Unfulfilled expectations (for details of this, check our yesterday edition).
2. Self(self-centeredness and selfishness) : Self is a nature in man that is referred to as the adamic nature, the sinful nature or the human nature! It is the nature that makes human love to be selfish.
Many of us cannot effectively serve God because of this nature called self, that often makes us want to be carnal.
The devil has employed this many times to undo us. It has made people to close their own door and damage their destiny! Hence God demands this nature crucified.
Jesus knew self would hinder our walk with Him, hence he placed a verdict on dying to self, taking up your cross and following him. Many are not following Jesus today because of self.
Where did we get self from?
It came from inheritance! We received it from Adam. (Job15:14, Ps.58:3, 51:5, Gal.5:19-21). It is a nature inherited from the first Adam! Hence, Jesus Christ the last Adam has come to give us another nature :
Romans 5: 17. For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
So the first man, brought Adamic nature, while the last Adam also brought a new nature that is the Godly nature. This is why until you are born again, you can not exhibit Agape love! It is a godly nature that comes with the new birth experience.
Biblical example of men who were offended because of self;
I. Cain(Gen.4:3-9): He was the first murderer on earth! His offence came because of self-centeredness that made him feel he should be commended even though he was doing the wrong thing.
Beloved, do you feel offended when the accolade you expect is not given to you? How do you react when you feel cheated, even when you are doing the wrong thing? Such offence stems out of self.
II. King Saul(1Sam.18:6-9): The self in him rose up the moment the women sang praises to David because his self esteem was threatened.
Beloved, what is your reaction when your self esteem is threatened? You spit fire and roll out drums for war! All these statements: “who do you think you are”? “Do you know who I am?” “don’t talk to me like that” etc are all products of self and as such offences are sponsored by self.
III. Balaam (Num. 22:22-28): He was offended because his pride was been crushed.
Beloved, do you get offended because your car broke down on the road unexpectedly?
IV. Naaman (2King5:9-14): He was offended because his ego made him feel that as an army general, he should be treated specially, which he did not receive.
Beloved, that ego you feel like protecting is the reason why you continue to have offences over and over again.
That personal interest you are trying to protect is the reason for your offence. Deal with self by allowing the finished work of the cross to find expression in your life.
Remember this : Heaven is real and hell is real! Don’t joke with your eternal destination. Sort out yourself with God today.
– Father thank you for your word to me today.
– Lord I repent of where I have allowed self to control me, from today Holy Spirit take control in Jesus name.
Prophetic Declaration :
– I prophesy the power of self-centeredness and selfishness be broken off from your life in Jesus name.
– May the glory of God take over you now, and receive grace to walk in love in Jesus name.
From your brother Alex
God bless you.
