SUSTAIN YOUR EXPECTATION TO THE END – Pastor David Oyedepo Jnr at Mid-Week Communion Service

  • Pastor David Oyedepo Jnr at Mid-Week Communion Service, Canaanland.

How many of you know that in a court case when you are the one who chose to plead guilty, there is no going back. When it is you that said “I am guilty, it was me that did it” then the case is finished. When your conscience speaks, it is you that spoke.

That is why we must continuously at every point in time be conscious of the voice of the conscience.

When your conscience is out of place, your obedience is misplaced. That is why you find people today, who are doing things commanded by God yet no result because in the court of Heaven, Satan is accusing and the conscience is witnessing.

  • I pray tonight for somebody here, tonight will mark a night of rescue in the name of the our Lord Jesus Christ.

The good news is that today we have the privilege of partaking of the flesh and blood of our Lord Jesus. Look at what the Bible says in Hebrews 9: 14 –
“How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” (Hebrews 9:14).

So the communion table provides a platform through which our conscience can be revitalized.

As a man goes before the Lord in repentance, the Blood of Jesus has the effect of cleansing his sin. We also see here that the Blood of Jesus has the power of purging the record of the conscience, so that the conscience is no longer speaking against you.

It is two fold – first of all, there is repentance, second of all there is engagement of the Blood. When those two are combined, the voice of the conscience is revitalized not to speak contrary to you but rather to testify on your behalf.

God makes it clear that, that testimony only continues as long as you are purged from dead works.

You can’t say “Oh, I partook of communion” or “I repented from my sin yesterday” and you continue in sin today and expect the conscience to speak for you. It is only a conscience that is maintained by sanctification that will allow it’s voice to speak positively on your behalf.

We must continue to pay close attention to the voice of our conscience. The Word of God makes it clear that it is better for you to endure grieve for conscience sake. In other Words, when you see something that is wrong and you know going the right way will cause certain painful consequences, it is better to go the right way.

1 Peter 2:19
It is better for there to be consequences for obeying the conscience. You and I must esteem the voice of the conscience above our earthly comfort.

If your senior in your place of work says “Come let us connive together” and if you don’t connive with the person, you will be going through all manner of consequences in your place of work and you can even lose your job if you don’t do it. God said it is better to lose your job for conscience sake. He said it is thank worthy.

There is no consequence that is high enough to sacrifice your conscience. I was reading recently in scriptures and something caught my attention, when the Bible talked about those that go to hell, it mentioned among them the fearful and who are the fearful?

The Bible makes it clear that they are the ones who are cowards and who for fear will compromise their stand with God. Jesus said “fear not them that can only kill the body and can do nothing with the spirit but rather fear him that after he has destroyed the body can send the spirit to hell”.

No man breathing God’s air should earn your fear above God. When this becomes a reality in you then your conscience is no more an offer for sacrifice.

It is so important that you and I understand this.

This is what makes obedience work. We have to ensure that our conscience comes back to life. We can’t afford to be eroded by the consciousness of our world.

  • I pray tonight for anyone here whose conscience has been seared with hot iron, may it be quickened tonight.
  1. Hope Driven Obedience

Ecclesiastes 9:4, 1 Peter 1:3
Hope has to do with expectation. It is important for us to note that hope is one of the foundations of our spiritual adventure (Hebrews 6:18). Hope is one of the principal pursuits of our Christian adventure.

This means that if our obedience is going to have effect, then it must have hope. Hope means it must be done in expectation.

Proverbs 23:18
It is those with expectation that are permitted to experience God’s manifestation. This is why it is important for you and I to ensure that as we obey God, we do so with expectation. Our hearts must be set.

Hebrews 6:11
Don’t just start in hope, stay in hope. As you are obeying God, stay with expectation, surely there is an end. God’s servant our father has spoken over and over again of how many people are just one step to the end and they give up. The Bible says we must show the same diligence, preserving our hope until the end. What is the end? The testimony. Every time you are obeying God, don’t just obey God empty hearted, obey Him with expectation.

You heard the second testimony that was read today of that individual who heard a testimony of people who got scholarships to study abroad from this altar and they began to engage with expectation.

All of a sudden the scholarship arrived.

One of the shocking things about that testimony is that the scholarship came before the admission.

You have not found school to go to, yet the money for school has arrived. Scholarship and Admission to go abroad, everything landed together. Why? Surely there is an end.

When your obedience is consistent with the end in view, then the end is sure to come. (Hebrews 12:2). Jesus saw himself upon that throne so everything he was going through here was of no consequence (Philippians 2:5-9). Jesus saw the end and because he saw the end he arrived at it. In your engagement what do you see? In your obedience to God, what do you see? It is your expectation that determines the conclusion.

  • I pray tonight that from this day forward your expectation would never shift.
The problem with many people is not that they don’t have expectation but that they don’t sustain expectation. Somebody is here and God has spoken to us concerning this year that this is our year of turnaround and somebody is saying this is October and nothing has turned around yet. Well, I don’t think anything can happen again. As a result of that, they started with expectation but they didn’t stay with expectation.
Think about this – the last night before Joseph would go to the palace, it was not like a bright light was shining in his cell, he was sleeping in there like every other night. It seemed like the routine would repeat itself but when the day came, there was a knock on his door that the King was looking for Him.

The Bible says that until the Word of the Lord came, there were many trials but he kept his expectation. He saw that one day, his brethren would be bowing to him and it was not in jail. So he knew that the jail was a temporary situation. It was about to be exchanged for a position of authority. I don’t know what your situation is but God’s Word has not changed.

He still said 2021 is your year of turnaround and as you hold on to it, the Word would come to pass. God is not a man that He should lie, He is not the son of man that He should adjust His statement. He cannot transfer what belongs to this year to next year.

Whatever He said is what He means. He means what He says and He says what he means. The Word of the Lord would come to pass, it doesn’t matter what it looks like. Joseph was there for years but the Word of God could not fail.

  • Somebody’s story is changing
God is saying therefore very simply – obey in hope. As you are obeying God keep your expectation in view.
Lift up your hands and appreciate God for his Word that has come your way tonight.
