IN THE EARLY DAYS OF THIS MINISTRY, MY MOTHER THOUGHT THERE WAS A MULTITUDE ATTENDING SERVICE IN THE KADUNA CHURCH BASED ON THE EXCITEMENT FROM BISHOP DAVID OYEDEPO UPON HIS RETURN TO ILORIN.
SHE WAS SURPRISED THAT THERE WERE 0NLY 21 PEOPLE, INCLUDING HERSELF, WHEN SHE ATTENDED THE KADUNA CHURCH. THE ADDITION WAS PART OF HER ARRIVAL WHICH INCREASED THE PREVIOUS SUNDAY’S ATTENDANCE. BUT THE SECRET WAS IN THANKSGIVING.
THOSE WHO COMPLAIN ABOUT WHAT IS INSUFFICIENT, NEVER GET WHAT THEY DESIRE, BUT LOSE WHAT THEY HAVE.
WHEN ANYTHING SEEMS INSUFFICIENT IN YOUR LIFE, DON’T COMPLAIN, GIVE THANKS.
-Pastor David Oyedepo Jr at CHoP
Our Father, we have come before You this morning to give glory and praise unto Your holy name. Thank You because You have done all things well. We give You all the praise and all the glory, accept our thanksgiving in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Now, Lord we are before You asking that You will speak to us. Let Your Word transform each one of our lives. Thank You for doing it, in Jesus precious name.
Our line of exhortation for this week has been:

UNDERSTANDING THE POWER OF THANKSGIVING

From scriptures, we have come to discover that thanksgiving is a commandment. God demands that we give thanks.
Jeremiah 13:16 – It is a commandment not a suggestion and that commandment is in two dimensions.

We discover that thanksgiving is appreciating God for what He has done in our lives – Psalm 92:1-2
So God demands that we give thanks for what He has done.

Deuteronomy 6:12 – we are cautioned. we have a responsibility to recall the benefits of God and to respond to them with thanksgiving. Until we do so, we are stepping out of all that God has in store for us.

So thanksgiving is appreciating God for what He has done.
We also discover that thanksgiving is also reminding God of what is to be done. In thanksgiving, we don’t only celebrate what God has done, but we activate God to do what must be done.

Luke 17:17-19
The Bible says one of them came back and gave glory to God. Jesus said, “where there not 10 cleansed. Where are the 9?” They were all cleansed but they were not all made whole. But when he saw that he was cleansed, he came back and with a loud voice began to give glory unto God. What was the effect? He was made whole.

In other words, as he was thanking God for what God had done, he was positioning himself for what God would do. Thanksgiving is not only an acknowledgment of what God has done but it is a catalyst for what God will do.

That is why I know for each one of us as we thank Him profusely this week among other things, we shall see the delivery of what is yet to be delivered, we shall see the delivery of what is yet to be manifested.

We must come to understand the effect, the primary effect of thanksgiving and we have seen a number of things in the course of this week and this morning we are going to go further concerning this subject of thanksgiving.

We serve a God of multiplication. Say with me, “I serve a God of multiplication.”
Deuteronomy 1:11, Genesis 22:17

God is a God of multiplication. Every time, anything is put in the hand of God, He multiplies it. He takes it beyond whatever it was and takes it to where it cannot attain by itself. God is a God of multiplication but we discover that if we are going to discover that if we are going to experience the multiplying hand of God on our behalf, the catalyst that is required is the catalyst of thanksgiving. We will look at a few examples quickly this morning from God’s Word.
John 6:6-11
For you to understand when he says, “5 loaves”, it doesn’t mean like the kind of loaf that we have. Loaves of bread used to leavened bread, they are very flat, they are like pancake. It’s like having 5 pancakes and 2 pieces of sardine, not 2 cans, 2 pieces, because the Bible says, “2 small fishes” and it was supposed the lunch of one small boy.
5 pancakes, 2 sardine and 5 thousand adults: hungry men who must eat.
I don’t know if you have ever been where they are sharing food and people see the pot is not big:

  1. Number 1, is that there will be fight.
  2. Number 2 is that almost nobody will eat because all the food will pour.
Now, 5,000 men and all can be seen is 5 pancakes and 2 sardine. In fact the first reaction of anybody will be anger. That with all of this hunger, this is what you have brought as the answer and the solution. That is why the disciples were saying, “Master, send this people away. Send them away, don’t cause riot. Send them away. By the time we gather all of them together and say, “now it is time to eat and bring out the 5 pancakes and the 2 sardine. Rather than even going for the food, it is us they will kill. Send them away.”
But the Bible tells us something unique, Jesus said, “give it to Me.” When the insufficient is put in the hand of the sufficient God, it is turned to more than enough.

The Bible says that He took those 5 loaves and the 2 fishes and He lifted it up to God and said, “Father, thank You.” He appreciated God for that which was not enough and what was the effect? The Bible says, they took the 5 loaves, they took the 2 fishes and He said, “tell all the men to sit down, food is coming.”

They began to share it, as they would take one loaf, give to a person, another loaf has already appeared. The loaves were multiplying, they didn’t see where it was coming from, but it kept multiplying. Until the 5000 men minus women and children ate and were full and gathered 12 baskets of remnants.

That is the power of thanksgiving.
You see, things never finish in the hands of a thanksgiver, because thanksgiving is the secret of multiplication.
2 Kings 4:1-2
A woman came to the Prophet Elisha and said to him, “my husband is dead and the creditors have come to take my children who have been laid up as collateral for his debt. I need help, I need intervention.”

Look at the question that was asked from this woman: “Woman, what do you have in your house?” What she had was not enough but God was saying, “acknowledge it first.” Thanksgiving is the acknowledgement of what God has done to secure what God will do.
She said, “I have a little pot of oil.” The answer is in that insufficient supply and he said, “take that pot, get as many vessels as you can get and begin to pour it into the vessels.” She began pouring it into vessel 1, vessel 2, vessel 3, vessel 4, it never finished until the vessels finished – 2 Kings 4:5
Why? Because she acknowledged what was given to her. You see when thanksgiving is offered, multiplication is the effect. By the time the oil had been poured out to all of the vessels, it was sufficient not only to pay the debt but for her to live off the rest. That is her want was terminated by thanksgiving.
-For somebody here, I see that becoming your own testimony.
Jeremiah 30:19
God’s response to our appreciation is multiplication. That is why when anything seems insufficient in your life, don’t complain, give thanks. Those who complain about what is insufficient, never get what they desire, rather they lose what they have – Psalm 28:5
We have a responsibility to ensure that at every point in life, we are giving thanks to God and in doing so, we keep seeing the multiplying hand of God at work on our behalf.
-I see that becoming our experience in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
God’s servant said when the Church Ministry started in Kaduna, he would get back to Ilorin with excitement, celebrating God and our mother didn’t know what was happening until the first day she came to Church.

When she arrived in the Church, she thought the Service was still about to start, because at the end of that Service, they were 21 in Church. So she thought it was maybe Sunday School, but that was the whole Service.

From the joy and appreciation she saw, she didn’t know that, that was what was on ground. She came thinking that there was a multitude on ground but what she saw was 21 people, including herself.

The addition was also part of her own arrival that brought the increase from the past Sunday. But thanksgiving is the secret.
When something seems minimal, just give thanks. Celebrate Him and watch it, He will keep multiplying you.
-That business, God will multiply it.
-In your career, God will multiply you.
-In every aspect of life, God will multiply you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
So no complaining. What must you be doing? Thanksgiving. Keep thanking Him, keep praising Him, keep celebrating Him and He will keep multiplying you.
Prayers: From the depth of your heart, give Him thanks. Whatever you want to see Him multiply, thank Him for it, acknowledge Him for it, celebrate Him for it, give glory to Him, give honour to Him, give adoration to Him.
Isaiah 54:1-2
Give Glory to God. Whatever you want to see Him multiply, thank Him for it. Give Him thanks and give Him praise. Father, thank You, blessed be Your name. In Jesus precious name we have prayed.

Make it a lifestyle to keep thanking God. I remember the testimony of one of us who said, that she was believing God for a job. She had engaged, done all that God had commanded and suddenly she received a miracle job but the job was not exactly the kind of job that she wanted. It wasn’t at that level but she came out on a Thanksgiving Sunday. She celebrated God and danced before God for the job she had received, even though it was not what she wanted. The following week, she got a call and something far beyond was delivered into her hand.

You see, God will always test you first. He will test you first. Many times, that thing that is in your hand, that seems insufficient is a test. God wants to see, “will you thank Him? Because the test is to see whether you will thank Him and when you thank Him, you pass the test. Then He begins to multiply you.

-That will be your own experience, in the name of the Lord Jesus.

SPEAK TO THE DAY
