Spread the love

*Those who are lovers of God are history makers.
*They make strange marks on the earth.
*Your activity is actually measured by the degree of your heart connectivity.
Father, this morning we have come with voices of gratitude to give glory unto You for Your faithfulness and for Your goodness.

Thank You Lord for the answers You have given to our prayers and for the marvelous testimonies that we keep hearing day after day.

We give You all the praise and all the glory. Now Lord, our eyes are on You this morning, we ask that You speak to us yet again. By Your Word, let everyone of us be changed and transformed. We give You the praise for it Lord. In Jesus precious name we have prayed.

Our line of exhortation for our Covenant Hour of Prayer this week has been:

We have come to discover that our heart for God is God’s fundamental demand because where your heart is, there also your treasure will be and the greatest treasure to man is time – Proverbs 23:26; Matthew 6:21
Psalm 90:12
In other words, wherever it is that we see value is where we engage our time and whatever our time is engaged with, is a pointer to what has taken over our hearts. If God is a priority in your heart, God will naturally be a priority in your time. That is why it becomes important for you and I to keep examining our hearts.
Ephesians 5:16 – our time must be recovered, must be appropriately invested, effectively engaged in order to ensure that our lives are properly invested. It means therefore our heart is God’s interest.
Jeremiah 17:10
Whatever it is that captures our hearts will naturally capture our time and when God sees the motive of your heart and He then begins to give weight to your acts – 1 Samuel 2:3
Your activity, as it were, is actually measured by the degree of your heart connectivity. That is why the state of our heart is of fundamental interest to God.
We began looking at case studies of individuals whose hearts went after God and as a result of that, their time went after God. We saw the example of Abraham and then yesterday we saw the example of Job. This morning we are going to go further as we look at the example of Nehemiah.
In Nehemiah chapter 1 and 2, we come across this young man who was said to be the cupbearer of the king, the most powerful king in the world.
In Nehemiah chapter 1, verses 1 to 11, the Bible tells us that a report came back from Jerusalem and they came to meet with Nehemiah. They told him of the state of the entire place of Jerusalem, how that the walls were broken down and the gates were burnt with fire and the people were in great distress. The Bible tells us that Nehemiah began to weep, fast and to pray for certain days. He stood in the place of prayer.
The question is, what is it because he had ample time?
What is it because he had nothing to do with his time?
Let us study the function of Nehemiah:

Nehemiah was what you call the cupbearer of the king. If the king is to drink, it was not a stool that he kept his cup on.

Nehemiah was the furniture, he was to be permanently by the side of the king, holding the cup of whatever the king was to drink. He was a man on permanent duty, that is the meaning.

But yet, in spite of his duty, he was continuously committed to advancing what mattered to God.

I will like you to understand that it is not that you don’t have time, it is that many people don’t have the heart.

Nehemiah was a furniture, a man whose responsibility was to hold the cup of the king that whenever the king decides to drink, a cup is not far from him and what he wants to drink is not far from him.

So what a stool is to you, is what Nehemiah was to the king, on permanent duty.

Yet in spite of his permanent duty to the king, he was also on continuous duty to God. You and I must keep examining ourselves.
Nehemiah 1:4 – he fasted and prayed for certain days.
Nehemiah 2:1-8
Let us understand that when it comes to our service for God, it is a matter of the heart. It was in Nehemiah’s heart so he didn’t struggle to find time for it.
-My prayer is that for each one of us, that same kind of heart of commitment, I pray that it will be quickened in us in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Let’s take note of the following very quickly this morning.

  1. That we need a heart for God to make the most of our journey on the earth. If you are going to maximize your destiny, it will require that your heart for God is in place.
    Psalm 1:2-3
His delight is in the law of the Lord, in the commandment of God: he is excited at whatever God says and as a result of that, he will be like a tree that is planted by the rivers. He will not ever have withering leaves. There will be no off season, he will continuously be productive. There will be no down time, his paths will be like the shining light that shines more and more to the perfect day. You see what God is saying is simple, when your heart is invested in God, your life becomes permanently progressive. You maximize the output of your destiny. It is so important for us to understand this.
    Psalm 112:1-3, 10
His destiny is maximized. Even wickedness is not a hinderance for a man whose heart is in pursuit of God. That is why you must understand that to maximize your destiny on the earth, if your journey will have maximum output, it is because your heart is appropriately invested.
Please hear this and hear it very well this morning, you see, destiny produces at different rates according to how it is invested. When a man’s heart is totally in pursuit of God, the man’s life is complete in terms of his output. The greatest ground to plant the seed of your life is in the ground of the Kingdom. I will like us therefore to understand that if our destinies and potentials are going to be maximized, it is going to be on the basis of our commitment unto God.
    Romans 8:28
A lover of God cannot be stranded. A lover of God cannot be frustrated even when evil is orchestrated against them, it keeps being worked out for their good. That is why the worst thing you can do in life is to target a God lover.

A God lover’s progress cannot be hindered.
Obstacles are stepping stones, they simply push them higher.
Somebody getting what God is saying?
That is what occurs when your heart is totally in pursuit of God.
1 Corinthians 13:8 – when a man is in love with God and in pursuit of God, his life is failure proof.

-I see that becoming somebody’s experience from now in the name of Jesus Christ.

  1. Secondly, it is important to recognize that one cannot have time for God without making strange marks on the earth. Not only do you make the most of your journey, you are bound to make strange marks on the earth.
Think about it: we are talking about the man called Nehemiah. This was a man whose job was to hold the cup of the king. If that man was to look for another job, what will he write on his CV? There was nothing relevant, the only thing he knew was to hold the cup of the king, but the Bible tells us concerning this man, that he became the governor of Jerusalem – Nehemiah 5:14
How does a cup holder become a governor? His life was transitioned from irrelevance to significance on the basis of his commitment to God. He was able to make a mark on the earth. Where will they have recorded the story of Nehemiah if not for his heart for God. There are people in the Bible whose names were necessary because of the lineage in which they came but it was written only as a name once.

Nehemiah was a man that was not a priest, not a prophet, not a man of any qualification but yet not only is his name in the Bible, there is an entire book concerning Nehemiah.

The Bible has 66 books and one book was dedicated to a man that should not be there for any reason simply because of his heart for God.

History never forgets God lovers.
Those who are lovers of God are history makers.
They make strange marks on the earth.
1 Corinthians 2:9
When you are a God lover, you are too strange to be forgotten. That is why you become a history maker. God lovers are pathfinders, record breakers, pace setters. That will become your own experience from now in the name of Jesus.
Not only do you maximize destiny, but you leave your marks on the sands of time by reason of your commitment to God. That is why there is no better thing to do with your life than to pursue after God.
There is no greater investment to make with your life than to invest it in God.
There is no greater pursuit to have in life than the pursuit of God.
And there is no greater grace to desire than the grace to continue with God.
We are going to receive that grace this morning and ask God for the outpouring of that grace. My destiny must be maximized, give me grace to keep following you. I must leave my mark on the earth, give me grace to keep following you.
Prayers: Make sure you are praying, calling upon the name of the Lord, in faith this morning. Lord, I need Your grace to keep pursuing You. I need Your grace to keep serving You, I need Your grace to keep My heart aflame for You. I need Your grace o Lord to maintain a heart for You. My destiny must be maximized. My destiny must matter upon the earth, I need your grace. I will not come and go without leaving a mark. I cannot stay in irrelevance, I must move to significance, therefore, I need your grace to remain in pursuit of You.
Thank You Father, blessed be Your holy name, in Jesus precious name we have prayed.
As you have asked for that grace, it will be made manifest in your life, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Please take note of this, you don’t become chasing greatness, you become great by chasing God.
We don’t scale heights by chasing promotion, we scale heights by chasing God.
God is the One who makes great, God is the One who promotes destinies, God is the One that maximizes the output of any life.
My prayer is that none of us will fall short in the name of Jesus, in Jesus precious name.
