GOD HAS AN ASSIGNMENT FOR YOU, YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO JUST SIT AND SOAK IN THE WORD OF GOD, YOU ARE TO CRY OUT TO SINNERS SO THEY CAN REPENT AND LIVE

YOU ARE NOT BETTER THAN THE PEOPLE THAT DIED DURING THE PANDEMIC IT IS BECAUSE OF THE MERCY OF GOD
EVEN IN HIS ANGER, HE REMEMBERS MERCY.

Pastor E. A. Adeboye at RCCG Special Sunday Service. Going Higher (Part 33).

1 Kings 18:41
When you are a younger Christian and you read a passage in the Bible, you enjoy the story and you move on like in 1 Kings 18, we enjoy the story of Elijah calling down fire from heaven, we even got a song from it.

As you go higher in the Lord, you begin to look at each story to see lessons there for yourself.

As you begin to go higher, you will look at 1 Kings 18 and say there are lessons here. Lessons like God is a majority, e.t.c.

But as you go higher still, you begin to look at every verse in the Bible with the intention of gaining something for yourself. If you began with us when we started this series, by now you are ready to say how much can I gain from a single verse.

To fully understand verse 41, you need to go back to verse 37 and read it all the way to verse 40. When the people saw signs and wonders, they surrendered just like Jesus Christ going to say later on that without signs and wonders, these people will not believe.

As a grown Christian you may begin to say maybe the reason I am not gaining too many converts for the Lord is because they are not seeing signs and wonders and all of a sudden you begin to hunger for the gift of the working in miracles.

If you have grown to the level of a pastor then you begin to say the reason my church is not growing the way it should grow is because there are no signs and wonders and suddenly you begin to feel ordinary preaching may not do this job, maybe I need to cry to God to support my preaching with signs and wonders.

Verse 40, we have learned that it means, everything that has to do with the devil, not a single one is allowed to stay in your life.
In verse 41, He started by saying ‘And’, and is a conjunction, as a result of what has gone before now, Elijah said to Ahab get thee up, eat and drink for there is a sound of abundance of rain. If you are approaching verse 41, as a grown Christian who has gone higher, you begin to say what are the lessons I can learn from this verse?

1 . The first lesson I want to point out to you is that God is merciful: You may say how do you see that in this? According to James 5:17, there had been no rain in the land for three and a half years yet these people have been preserved.

You know what that means, no rain, no planting, no harvest and yet these people were preserved.
Lamentations 3:22, says it is of the mercies of the Lord we are not consumed. God is merciful, you can look at yourself and say I am alive today because of the mercy of the Lord. Consider almost two years of COVID-19 and you are still here, It is of the mercies of the Lord. If anybody has died throughout this pandemic, it is not because you are better than them, it is because of the mercy of the Lord.

The Bible is full of references to show us that the Lord is merciful.
Exodus 34:6, says, the Lord God merciful and gracious, long-suffering and abundant in goodness and truth. In spite of everything that is happening from the nations of the world, in spite of the sins, bloodshed all manners of atrocities yet out of His mercy, we have been preserved.

Deuteronomy 4:31, the Bible says for the Lord God is merciful that is why He will not forsake thee or destroy thee. H

is mercy is still close particularly to those of us who are His children, we have done several things that will make Him say I don’t have anything to do with you anymore but His mercy will not allow Him to forsake us.

Psalms 103:8, says because He is merciful that is why He is slow to anger.

Ephesians 2:4, says God is rich in mercy. When God wants to talk about His wealth, He doesn’t talk about silver and gold, He talks about His mercy, God who is rich in mercy.
Romans 9:15-16, we see that God still reserves His sovereignty when it comes to dispensing this mercy. He said I will be merciful to who I will be merciful, He has the freedom to decide that.

The Bible went further in that Romans 9:16, it says it is not of him that willeth nor of him that runneth but of God that showeth mercy, meaning that whatever you have ever achieved is not because you want to achieve it or you have the ability, it is because of the mercy of God.

Consider students in the same class, you take the University, you go to the University because you are above average and yet some people won’t finish the University, some people will spend years until the University will say go.

For those who manage to get through, it is not because of their brilliance but of the mercy of God.
Consider traders, you go to the market, in the morning, you sell fruits, your fruit is as good as the fruits of the next fellow to you but you find that some people will sell within hours and some people will bring the same fruit again and again until they are rotten. The difference is the mercy of God.

He says I will show mercy on who I will show mercy but again out of His mercy, He creates an opening for you to say, God, you have to be merciful unto me. How does He create the opening? Matthew 5:7, says blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy. He says if you can show mercy to others then I have no choice but to show mercy to you. You be merciful and I must show you mercy.

Proverbs 11:17, a merciful man doeth good to his own soul and the wicked man troubleth his own flesh.

I thought the Bible will say the merciful man doeth good to somebody else and the wicked man does wickedness to someone else. It says if you are merciful you are doing good to your own soul because by being merciful you open the door to receive mercy from God. You are wicked, you cut off the mercy of God from you.

It is because of the mercy of God that these people are preserved is telling us that God doesn’t want the death of sinners. These people deserved to die, they had forsaken God who brought them out of the land of Egypt.

Their hearts turned away from Him, they began to serve idols.

He warned them when He was bringing them out of bondage, He said I am taking you to a land that is not your own, I am moving the people there out of the way, when you get there, don’t follow their example, don’t cause your children to pass through fire.

He said because this is what the people in the land did that is causing me to drive them out for you. Learn from them, you are not the owner of the land that I am making available to you, when you get there, remember I created these people the way I created you, they misbehaved, that is why I am moving them out, when you get there, don’t misbehave.

They got there, they found houses they didn’t build, they began to dwell there, they found well they didn’t dig and they began to use it and then the very thing that God said they shouldn’t do, they began to do it and God said alright, for three and a half years, no rain.
Even in His anger, He remembered mercy, isn’t that true of many of us?

When we were nothing, God out of His mercy brought us up, He prospered us when others failed and as soon as we became comfortable, we forgot him.

Ezekiel 33:11, He says I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, all I want you to do is to repent and live.

Because He is so full of mercy, whenever He sees repentance He turns around and says, no more quarrel for nations and individuals.

1 Kings 21:1-29, tells us the story of a King who killed somebody because he wanted the garden of that fellow. The fellow said I am not selling my garden, it is my inheritance. The King’s wife said don’t worry, I will get it for you, they plotted against the innocent and got him killed.

God got angry and sent a messenger to that King and said you think I don’t know what you did? You are in trouble, the King heard that and humbled himself and the Bible said God sent the same man of God to him and said I have seen what you have done, the judgment will come but not in your time.

In Jonah 1, God saw a nation Nineveh, a very terrible nation, probably far more terrible than our own, He said before I judge these people, let me send somebody to go and tell them what they are doing, I don’t like it, trouble is coming. Jonah finally got there, preached to them and they all repented from the King to the lowest and because they repented God said all right I have changed my mind, I am not going to destroy you anymore.

That tells you that there is hope for our nation if only we will repent.
Whenever backsliders return, God will heal. Jeremiah 3:22, the moment these people fell on their faces and said Jehovah you are God, God heard and He said in that case, the rain will fall.

The moment the link between them and the forces of darkness were severe and the Prophets of Baal were killed, God said rain is on the way.
This explains why as soon as you are born again, God didn’t take you to heaven, why? Because He needs someone who will go and tell the people, repent!

According to Ezekiel 3:1, it says I have made you a watchman over your nation.
Ezekiel 33:1-6, says when you see danger coming, warn the people, if they repent fine if they don’t repent and you have warned them and they perish you are cleared. If you don’t tell them that danger is coming then danger comes, I will take them and require their blood from your hands.
You must witness, whether to individuals or nations.
Ezekiel 33:8-9, you must warn the wicked, if he repents, he will live, if he doesn’t repent and you have warned him then He dies and it is not your fault. You are saved so that you can bring salvation to others.
John 15:16, says you have not chosen me but I have chosen you that you should go and bear fruits and your fruits will abide then your prayers will no longer be hindered. God has an assignment for you brother, you are not supposed to just sit down there and begin to soak in the Word and do nothing about it, you are to cry out to sinners so that they can repent and live. You better hurry up, beginning from today with every member of your family that is not yet born again because of something called the Law of Substitution.

Proverbs 11:8, says the righteous is delivered from trouble but the wicked goeth instead. You are born again now, you are righteous, if danger is coming your way, you will be delivered but if any member of your family is not saved when you are delivered, that fellow that is so gracious to you that is not a child of God will become the substitute, don’t waste time, as soon as I finish preaching now, pick your phone and begin to talk to that family member that this is a serious matter, we are living in dangerous times, I don’t want any danger to come to you, surrender your life to Jesus Christ and do so now.

For those of you listening to me, I am crying to you now as a watchman, give your life to God, there is trouble ahead but it won’t come near you if you are a child of God.

The Blood of Jesus Christ will make sure that when death is passing by it will not come near you but you must surrender to Him now.

Ask the Lord to have mercy on you and save you right now, so that when death is passing by, he will see the Blood and pass over you. Tell Him you will serve Him and Him alone and He will save your soul.
God Bless You All!
